What is God's purpose for my life?

What is God's purpose for my life? Most people have asked that question at one time or another.  Usually, most have already tried to discover their purpose before asking that question, some by achievement, some through education, and some by work.  Many seek to find it through experiences; others through relationships. But the reality is, Christ says until you’re willing to lose all this, let go of it as a source of meaning, you’ll never find yourself. True life is about letting go of your priorities, of your desires, of your interests, in order to follow Christ’s.

“He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.” Matthew 10:37-39

In these verses Christ proclaims that He must come first in all of our relationships.  He must be top priority in everything of our life.  So have you made that decision? Are you willing to lose your priorities for Christ’s priorities?  The only way to really live is to lose your life for Jesus.  But how do we know what He wants from us.  Wouldn’t it be nice if you woke up each morning and God would just text you and tell you His purpose is for you today?  God speaks to each of us in His Word, and through prayer, and by walking in both we learn to see Him and hear Him.  Once we hear Him, we can then begin find His purpose for us.  Can you hear Him?

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.  And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” John 10:27-28

This is my Prayer: God to reveal Your purpose for me.  Help me listen for Your answer.  Show me how to have the faith to continue in Your purpose.  Lord teach me to seek Your will and wants, and to make You top priority in my life.  Jesus speak to me in Your word and in my prayer life, that I will be able to follow You.  In Jesus name, Amen.

I can’t do this anymore!

I can’t do this anymore! Has this thought ever crossed your mind, "There must be more to a relationship with God than this"? Do you ever feel like a failure? Hurting? Discouraged? All alone? Well, you're not alone. Many people at the grocery store, in your neighborhood, and in church look like they have it all together, but inside most are challenged by many of the same things you are. Sometimes we get so full of ourselves, without even realizing it.  We think we can handle life on our own without God, and when that doesn’t work we wonder why our relationship with God is not working like it should.  We desperately need is to be filled with Christ.  Paul proclaims in Philippians 1:21a "For me to live is Christ".

“As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” Acts 9:3-6

Paul did not always live for Christ. Paul had tried to do to have a relationship with God on his terms as a Jew.  He only began to do it on God’s terms when Jesus confronted Him on the road to Damascus and convinced him of his sin, and then by grace he was brought to see Jesus for who He was. Paul had to come to the end of himself in order to live for Jesus. Can you relate? Apart from God we aren't capable of anything, let alone loving Jesus.  Have you come to the end of yourself? Do you feel like you can't "arrive"? This is a good place to be. You now have the awesome opportunity to have an intimate relationship with God. Because then we stop trying to do it all ourselves and depend on God, He can reveal to us who Jesus is and what he wants for our lives.

This is my Prayer: God help me depend on Your ability to change my heart and guide my life. Jesus I need you, your grace, your mercy. Lord I need to spend time in your presence. I can’t do life on my own.  Teach me to come to You and not rely on myself.  Help me find the end of myself, so I can find You.  In Jesus name, Amen.

God wants all of our lives!

For a long time, I thought giving God most of me was good enough. I thought since I prayed, attended church and would attempt to do what is right, that was enough for God. The reality is God wants all of our lives, not just a part of it. “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.” Mark 12:30.

What does it mean to give God your all? It means to stop clinching your fists and to stretch out your hands to God. For a while, I put things, people, relationships, and career over God. I thought if I was a little obedient, I would still receive the promises of God. But, when God says obey, He will not settle for partial obedience. Is there an area in your life where you have not been in full obedience? When you decide to give God your all, it requires surrendering every area of your life to Him. Even when it does not make sense, we must obey Him.

I love the story in the Bible that speaks about Abraham preparing to sacrifice his son. As soon as he prepares his son for sacrifice, God exclaims, “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” He said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son” Genesis 22:12. The angel of the Lord proclaimed, “I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars...your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me” Genesis 22:17-18. God provided the sacrifice Abraham needed and the poured out a blessed him for his obedience. God is no different in our lives. The moment you follow Him, surrender, and are obedient, God meet our need and blesses.

This is my Prayer: God help me to be obedient, in all areas of my life, not just part. Lord forgive me when I try to take short cuts in my walk with You. Holy Spirit give me direction and reveal what steps I need to take to become more like Christ. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Trust and Seek God First

Many times when we go through trials, we tend to immediately pick up the phone, speak with a friend, or update our status on facebook to try and determine what to do.  We tend to take the opportunity to edge God out and seek guidance from others first.  We can become so dependent on someone else that we lose our dependency on God. Then when we lose that loved one or the relationship comes to an end, we find ourselves stuck.  God desires for you to follow and trust Him to get you through, and no one else.

“It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man” Psalm 118:8

When these things come be determined to depend on God. When you are facing a situation in your life, make the decision to seek guidance from God first. Pray over it with God, recite and meditate on His scriptures and then and only then share it with others.  Ask God to remove this dependence on others and fill it with His presence.  When we depend on the arms of flesh to meet our needs more than the hand of God that is when we go wrong.  Remember, God is always there for you.

Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:5-8

This is my Prayer: Jesus help me realize You are source of all answers and the one I need to seek first.  God teach me to give my problems and concerns over to You. Show me how to depend on You, to carry all my stress, to carry all my burdens, to carry all the anxieties of life.  Lord I am depending on You for every need in my life, set me free to serve you. In Your Name, Amen.

Where are you seeking praise?

Most often as we go about our days, we may seek several likes on our social media page, hope to be retweeted on our status bar, or simply wishing friends and family would validate who we are. What is even worse, we also seek the praises from those we do not like, hoping for a "good job,” "you are the best" or "I appreciate you," but instead, we should seek the praises of our Heavenly Father.

Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. John 12:42-43.

These verses tells us that they believed, but cared more about what other thought of them, than what God did. The problem is man’s favor is temporary, God’s favor is eternal. So, how do we get the praises and favor of God? We begin by talking to God and seeking His will for our lives. Then letting go of any idols you have placed above God, and yes favor and praise can be an idol. If we follow His will, we will obtain the praises of God. Begin today listening to your heart, asking God how your life can be used to give Him praise. Cease to live a self-fulfilled life, and let God begin to use you for His purpose. Then you will begin to receive the praises of God. God expects us to walk into the good work He has already implemented in our lives. We have been created and designed for His use.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

This is my prayer: God I need Your praise and favor today. Lord show me how I can walk in Your will and in Your ways. I want to live my life for you. Help me to care about the things You care about. Jesus help me to focus on what bring You praise. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
